Models and credits
Comigo is free. The AI that writes advice is either paid with Comigo credits, billed to your own API key, or runs locally. Choose in Settings → AI models.
| Option | You need | Who bills you |
|---|---|---|
| Comigo credits (default) | A Comigo account | AI2, from prepaid credits |
| OpenRouter | An OpenRouter API key | OpenRouter |
| OpenAI | An OpenAI API key | OpenAI |
| Anthropic | An Anthropic API key | Anthropic |
| LM Studio | LM Studio running a compatible model on this Mac | Nobody: it's local |
For each option pick a chat model and, where it applies, a vision model. Use Test Connection & Discover Models to check the key and list available models. Cost and quality depend on the model you pick.
Comigo credits
Sign in
Settings → Account → sign in with Google, email and password, or a phone code. Your sign-in is stored in the macOS Keychain.
Buy credits
- 1 credit = US$0.01. Packs: $10, $25, $50, $100.
- Your first purchase opens a secure Stripe checkout page in your browser, which saves your card. Later packs can be bought inside the app with the saved card.
- Card fee: debit and prepaid cards pay no fee. Credit cards pay a processing fee (about 2.9% + $0.30; more for cards issued outside the US). The fee is always shown before you pay and does not buy credits. No sales tax is added.
- Auto top-up (optional): when your balance falls below a minimum (from $1), Comigo charges your saved card for the amount you chose (from $10). If a charge fails, billed calls pause until the issue is fixed.
What a call costs
Each AI call is charged from what the model provider charges, with AI2's margin included, rounded up to whole credits. Before a call, Comigo reserves enough credits for the longest possible reply and returns what wasn't used. If your balance is too low, Comigo shortens the reply or asks you to buy credits. Your current balance and usage are in Settings → Account and Overview.
Your own key (BYOK)
- Create a key with OpenRouter, OpenAI or Anthropic.
- In Settings → AI models, choose the provider and paste the key.
- Click Test Connection & Discover Models, then pick your models.
OpenAI and Anthropic keys are saved in the macOS Keychain. Comigo shows estimated costs in Overview; the provider's own dashboard is the authoritative bill.
An OpenRouter key is also what enables natural spoken replies (see Voice) if you don't use Comigo credits.
Local model (LM Studio)
- Install LM Studio, download a model and start its local server (default
http://localhost:1234/v1). - In Comigo choose LM Studio and select the model. For screen understanding, use a model with vision support or keep local text recognition on.
Local models are free and private but need a powerful Mac for good results.
Screen text recognition
In Settings → AI models, the OCR Engine & Visual Perception section has three modes:
- Apple Vision (Local) (default): Apple's on-device text recognition. Nothing is uploaded for this step.
- Cloud vision model: the screenshot is sent to a vision model to read it. Better on hard-to-read screens, costs more, and the image leaves your Mac.
- Hybrid: local first, cloud only when local reading is poor.
Keeping costs low
- Use the Focus or Balanced pace. Comigo never calls the AI when the screen hasn't changed.
- Pause when you don't need help (⌘⇧P).
- Exclude apps where help isn't useful (Settings → Privacy).
- Keep spoken suggestions off unless you want them.
- Pick a "flash" or "mini" model for everyday advice.
